A new study that examined the give-back plans of 1,000 engaged couples in the United States finds that 64% intend to make supporting a charity a part of their upcoming wedding celebration.
With 2.5 million weddings expected in the United States in 2022, that’s more than 1.5 million weddings, including related events such as bridal showers and gift lists.
The study was commissioned by the non-profit organization VOW for Girls, which aims to end child marriage worldwide.

According to Clay Dunn, CEO of VOW for Girls, these results show that with more than $60 billion set to be spent on US weddings in 2022, couples are realizing they can use their wedding to create a to make an important impact.

Giving back is becoming an integral part of the celebration
The study also showed that couples are also increasingly planning to incorporate charitable giving into their guests’ experience to include
For example, nearly two-thirds of participants said they plan to add a “donate” option to their wedding registry, where friends and family would be asked to make a donation to charity instead of a gift for the couple.
And 72% of respondents said they would be more likely to hire a wedding organizer if that company also donated a portion of their profits to charity.
What causes would couples like to give back?
The leading category at 67% was for causes and organizations that support women (and girls).
Behind these were causes focused on education, poverty and health. Other popular categories included climate change and animal rights.
How do these weddings give back to the community?
The study also asked participants how they planned to implement their giving-back strategy into their wedding plans.
The most frequently mentioned method was a donation in honor of their guests.
The guests were then asked to donate either in addition to or in lieu of a gift.
Another way of helping others is by making entries in the registry where part of the Sale price goes to a non-profit organization.
Similarly, some respondents indicated that they would at least partially turn their bridal shower into some sort of charity fundraiser.
